مرض فيروسي شديد العدوى يصيب الجلد والأغشية المخاطية، سببه فيروس من عائلة Poxviridae. ينتقل عن طريق الجروح، التلامس المباشر، والحشرات الناقلة زي البعوض.

Symptoms

Skin form: wart-like nodules on unfeathered areas. Diphtheritic form: pseudomembranes in mouth/pharynx. Mixed form possible.

Causes

فيروس الجدري (Avipoxvirus)

Transmission

جروح وخدوش الجلد، التلامس المباشر مع طيور مصابة، لدغ الحشرات (خصوصًا البعوض)، وأحيانًا انتقال هوائي.

Diagnosis

الآفات الظاهرية غالبًا كافية للتشخيص المبدئي؛ التأكيد بفحص الأنسجة (وجود Bollinger bodies) أو زرع الفيروس على أغشية بيض مخصب.

Treatment

Lesion removal, iodine-glycerin dressing, antibiotics for secondary infection, vitamin A/E supplementation.

Prevention

Live attenuated vaccine, mosquito/insect control, avoid trauma, disinfect with 10% bleach solution.
