Ahmar Ghuzar

One of the Ghuzar breeds most admired and most carefully kept, and the one on whose standard keepers are all but unanimous with no dispute worth noting. Medium head, rounded from behind, semi-round in front with an arch; with age the arch feathering commonly rides over itself from both sides — what keepers call mudaffar — a mark of beauty found in many other Ghuzar breeds whose absence is not counted a deficiency. Short broad beak in pale honey with a very faint reddish cast, and matching nails; round wide eye with some opening, black pupil, white iris and ruby ring; white eyelids of medium thickness, smooth. Medium chest tapering to the rear, small short legs, 35 cm on average, tight wing. Body wholly red — keepers say hammar balha, likening it to the colour of red date fruit — and the red must hold the same depth over the whole body, the tail never washed with brown, blue or black.
