Aswad Ghuzar

A much-disputed house: some keepers described it as coarse with a thick beak, others as fine-featured and likened it to the Safi of the Talaween, and some denied the existence of a house by this name at all. The correct black Ghuzar has become very scarce, because most keepers who acquire one cross it into other houses to extract its qualities rather than breeding it on, because general taste favours light birds over dark, and because of avian influenza and the mass culling that followed. Small head, round front and back like the Safi's; short, blunt, broad black beak with black nails and fine nostril wattle very close to the Safi's; round wide eye with a black pupil, white iris and a deep ruby ring; fine white eyelids of medium thinness; body very close to the Safi in construction — a medium chest tapering to the rear, short small smooth legs, 35 cm on average, tight wing, and strong broad feathering as in most Ghuzar. Entirely lustrous black.
