A bacterial disease that mostly affects the respiratory and nervous systems and can cause noticeable economic losses when it spreads through a loft.
Symptoms
Neurological and respiratory signs, general weakness, possible sudden death in acute cases.
Causes
Pasteurella multocida bacteria
Transmission
Direct contact with infected birds, and contaminated feed or water.
Diagnosis
Bacterial culture from tissue samples or secretions.
Treatment
Sulphonamides, sulfamethazine, or norfloxacin depending on severity.
Prevention
Loft hygiene, reduce stress/overcrowding, isolate affected birds immediately.
