Lead / Zinc / Salt / Pesticide Toxicity

التسمم بالرصاص والزنك والملح والمبيدات

Educational content for breeders — not a substitute for veterinary advice. Doses and treatments here are general; actual diagnosis and treatment must be supervised by a veterinarian.

Poisoning by heavy metals or chemicals that mainly affects the nervous system. It has several environmental sources inside and outside the loft.

Symptoms

Neurological signs (imbalance, tremors), general symptoms varying by toxin type/source.

Causes

Lead, zinc, excess salt, pesticides (especially organophosphates) or anticoagulants (rodenticides)

Transmission

Not an infectious disease — direct environmental exposure to the source of poisoning (wire, paint, contaminated feed, rat poison).

Diagnosis

Nervous signs together with identifying the likely environmental source of exposure.

Treatment

Immediate removal of toxin source, urgent supportive care under veterinary supervision.

Prevention

Keep pigeons away from lead/zinc sources, monitor salt levels in feed, extreme caution with pesticides/rodenticides near the loft.
