طفيليات خارجية بتهاجم الحمام بشكل دوري (مش دائم زي القمل)، بتختبئ في شقوق القن وتخرج ليلًا لامتصاص الدم ثم ترجع تختبئ. من أهم أنواعها العث الأحمر (Red Mite).

Symptoms

Irritation, itching, blood-loss damage from repeated feeding, potential vector for other pathogens.

Causes

القراد وأنواع الحلم (عث الجلد، عث الأرجل المتقشرة، العث الأحمر)

Transmission

بتنتقل عن طريق شقوق القن والأعشاش الملوثة، وبتظهر بشكل واضح في ساعات الصباح الأولى وهي بتبحث عن مخبأ.

Diagnosis

الفحص البصري المباشر في شقوق القن (خصوصًا فجرًا)، أو فحص مجهري لكشط جلدي في حالة عث الأرجل المتقشرة.

Treatment

Insecticide dipping/dusting on the bird, thorough treatment of loft cracks and crevices.

Prevention

Regular weekly bathing, routine inspection and disinfection of loft cracks.
