طفيليات خارجية منتشرة جدًا في أقفاص الحمام، بتعيش بشكل دائم على الطائر المصاب ولا تتركه إلا للبحث عن عائل جديد. ليها أنواع فرعية بتختلف مكان تواجدها على الجسم.

Symptoms

Itching/irritation, visible lice in feathers, possible feather loss and follicle swelling with heavy infestation.

Causes

قمل الريش (أنواع متعددة: القمل الطويل، القمل القصير، عث الريش، عث الحكة)

Transmission

تلامس مباشر بين الطيور، وانتقال عن طريق أدوات وأعشاش ملوثة.

Diagnosis

الفحص البصري المباشر للريش، أو فحص مجهري لكشط جلدي عند الاشتباه في عث الحكة.

Treatment

Dipping/dusting with appropriate insecticides (e.g. permethrin) on both bird and loft.

Prevention

Regular weekly bathing in clean water, periodic cleaning of feeders/waterers with hot water.
